Glossary

Bench (Backup) Worn: Desribes that a jersey wass worn by a Goalie who joined the bench as back-up while wearing the jersey but did nor play

(Board) Burns: Board burns, especially along the sleeves and elbows are a common sign a jersey was worn and evokes from contact with the boards

Certificate of Authenticity (COA): COAs are valuable support to determine the origin of a jersey. Mostly teams, dealers and auction houses issue and distribute COAs.

Game Issued (GI): The specific jersey was prepared for usage from the team but never encountered any game action

Game Worn (GW): The jersey was worn by the specific player

Letter of Authenticity (LOA): see Certificate of Authenticity (COA) above

Marks (Puckmarks/Stickmarks): Most common form of visible game usage

MGG: Abbreviation for the MeiGray Group as a leading dealer of game worn items

NNOB: No name on back - most practice / training camp jerseys and some vintage shirts, especially from National teams, only had a number on back without a name

NOBR: Name on back removed. Years ago it was common practice that teams recycled their jerseys to be used  by another player or for the following season, so te removal of the name from jerseys was not unusual at vintage game worn jerseys

Photomatch: The jersey can clearly be identified by a photo showing the player wearing the specific jersey

Photoreference: A photo showing the player dressed up with the same style of jersey. It differs from a photomatch since the specific jersey cannot be identified with the provided photo

Pre-Season: The player wore the jersey during pre-season games only

Rookieseason: Jersey worn by the player during the season he enters the league

Training Camp (TC): The jersey was worn during teams training camp, which is usually scheduled before the start-off of a season

Videomatch: A video displaying the player wearing the specific jersey by a variety of possible factors (marks, lettering, numbering...)

Videoreference: The video showing the player in an identical styled jersey but without clear authentificating the specific jersey

Vintage: A jersey worn decades before purchase. While there is no commonly approved definition most collectors and dealers use the "vintage" declaration for jerseys worn at least 20-30 years ago

Wear: The wear determines the degree of usage a game worn jersey displays
